The State of Oklahoma was originally known as Indian Territory and several Southern tribes were forced to relocate there.  These tribes became known as the Five Civilized Tribes.  The name "Oklahoma" is from two Choctaw words, Okla = "red", Homa = "man";  thus "Red Man".  If you are interested in other links to these National groups, please use your favorite search engine.  Encarta 99 and any good high school level encyclopedia are also excellent sources of information about Oklahoma and the Native Americans that live, or have lived, there.
